Beyond The Basics: The Traits In Action

Participants in this full-day session will examine how the traits of writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation) are core elements of the revision and editing stages of the writing process. Ideas of how to connect trait-based writing lessons to the real writing that students are doing in classrooms will be shared along with systems to help keep track of it all.

In addition, examples to link reading activities to support writing instruction using fiction and non fiction texts will be presented. Designed for the teacher who has been working with traits for a year or more, this workshop is based on key understandings from previous trainings on 6+1 trait assessment and instruction. This is not a workshop for anyone unfamiliar with the trait model, but rather it is for those anxious to step up to the next level and fully utilize the power of the traits to create successful and independent revisers and editors. (Grades 3-9) Required pre-reading text: 6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Grades 3 and Up. Email us for more information.
