Description: Join Ruth Culham, Author and Literacy Learning Expert for this session. Sharing great writing through picture books is a joy for every teacher, regardless of the age of his or her students. However, when we look at the books through the lens of the traits: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions (and presentation), it’s possible to use these same texts to teach students how writing works from the inside out. In this session, participants will sample books that show strength in each of the traits and will learn how to use them to bring energy and enjoyment to the writing classroom right along with building skills that strengthen the work of young writers.
